Sherwood Lumber Corp. is a national Wholesale Lumber and Building Materials distributor to retail, industrial and construction companies. Sherwood was using a proprietary, heavily customized AS400 solution, while Bloch Lumber (acquired by Sherwood) was using Progressive Solution’s LumberTrack for a number of years. The option was to either upgrade the LumberTrack system, as their legacy AS400 solution had effectively reach the end of its development potential, or start afresh with a fully integrated solution that provides flexible, open-ended development, and growth potential that allows for future diversification in the Sherwood business model.

We chose WoodPro because our SBT program was no longer being supported, and we wanted a system with better reports on inventory control and sales, as well as one that is suited specifically to the wood industry. The WoodPro ERP system itself has too many features to highlight them all here. Some of the ones we found useful include creating multiple PO’s with the same information, tying sales orders and PO’s together, creating back orders, and reviewing history of sales by customer or part numbers. The Warehouse Management System (handheld scanner) has also improved the accuracy of our inventory control, along with the stock taking of actual inventory.

Bateman Bros Lumber was started by Ed Bateman in 1946, operating originally as Central American Hardwoods in Philadelphia. During the 1960’s, they were selling primarily hardwoods, Philippine mahogany, cedar, pine, doug fir and redwood to retail lumber yards. In 1974 a second yard was purchased in Bucks County, PA to service North Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. In 1989, they purchased E.D. Collier & Son and moved across the river into Woodbury, NJ. During the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s the four brothers were joined by their sons Mike, Kevin, Bob, George, Howard and Dan.
Bateman Lumber is built on the premise of working for its customers, while supporting the families it employs. They procure products that fit their specific customers’ needs. This attitude continues today, along with the understanding that “our suppliers are as important to us as are our customers”. They are a wholesale distributor of lumber and other building materials.

We had been using Info Plus by Smartek, however, since they no longer provided support because they went out business, we needed to replace our system. WoodPro was very accommodating and took on quite a bit of the implementation process that a larger client's IT staff normally handles. And such work was handled without issue.
Being a small wholesaler, this was essential as we have limited employee resources available to dedicate exclusively to setting up a new system.
Any needs that were not met by the system as delivered have been handled/changed by the support staff. Larger and more "specific to our company" changes were made at what I consider very reasonable fees.
