"We chose WoodPro for 3 main reasons: First, WoodPro is lumber industry specific. It was very important to us that our ERP system be able to handle the unique problems of buying and selling lumber. Second, WoodPro provided the best feature to cost ratio of the 3 software solutions we looked at. Finally, the integrated and adaptable accounting and financial reporting module really won over the accounting department.
Since we are a Microsoft shop, I appreciated the fact that WoodPro uses MS technologies such as SQL Server, C# .net, and Terminal Services. This allowed WoodPro to seamlessly integrate into our environment. The Reporting and Analysis Services tools that come with SQL Server have allowed me to develop static reports that are deliverable via email on a schedule, and business intelligence reports that allow super fast analysis of sales data.
WoodPro designed an import utility that allows us to quickly import treating information from our TreatRight system into a WoodPro reman work order. A user commented to me just the other day how much time that saves every day. It also reduces keying errors.
WoodPro custom designed a special Location and Item tag that we can use to process zero cost items. This allows us to keep track of Treating Services Only (TSO) inventory as it moves through our plant. TSO inventory is not ours; we are just providing a service by treating it. But for some of our customers, we were moving so much inventory that keeping track of it on a spreadsheet was becoming problematic. Therefore we needed to be able to manage the inventory inside of WoodPro without assigning it a value. Now our plant just handles the TSO inventory like every other item, and WoodPro keeps track of it.
WoodPro modified the stock taking tag and maintenance table so that our plants could easily put the tags in the same order as the items were listed in the table. This change greatly reduced the amount of time needed to complete stock taking.
Moving to WoodPro was a huge change for my users. We previously had been on a character based COBOL system, so there was a lot leaning and adapting. Not once did I hear the phase “I wish we had the old system back.” My users like WoodPro. I was happy with the deployment of WoodPro. These things never go as smoothly as you want, but WoodPro provided the resources and manpower to ensure we hit our go live date and successfully transition to their product. Not once did we have a “this isn’t working, bring the old system back online” moment. And if you have ever been through one of these, that’s saying a lot. All unanticipated problems were addressed and corrected quickly and efficiently."
